A little about Ashley
I love helping people make their spaces, beautiful, personal, and functional and to tell their personal stories.
I grew up in a home that told a great story, my parents were a fun mix of a small-town Oregon boy and a girl with deep roots in Alabama and our house had interesting, humble, and beautiful things in every corner. When given the option between a plastic container to hold pens from the office store, or a vintage mug, it was always the mug. And that's the story I passed down but now in my voice, as I've renovated, styled, and settled into my own homes over time.
My education in design isn't formal, but it is full. With years of working in merchandising and small business management, I learned how to communicate a story using beautiful pieces in a way that served people and improved their homes and day-to-day lives.
While pursuing my degree in teaching at the University of Oregon, I worked for a local interior designer in her 5 person firm. The work was challenging and rewarding, and I learned some of the management skills that are necessary to make beautiful designs come together.
After school I went into non-profit work, managing teams and projects, and in my free time, I began investing my styling and merchandising experience in my own small home, learning so much through hands-on design. Friends began to reach out asking if I would help them with their homes and spaces, and I started taking clients on the side. After a few years of moonlighting, I officially launched Ashley Willms Interiors in 2019 after my husband and I moved our family from Oregon to Washington.
Since starting on this path, I've had the privilege of working with several designers and firms as a freelance designer, and currently, I am managing a growing book, taking on a mix of full-service clients, virtual clients, and styling sessions.
Well-curated spaces that are comfortable, livable, and tailored, always with a mix of old and new, and layering textures are the hallmarks of my work. I would love to use these same principles to help you tell the story of your spaces.
