The Weekly-ish Installment

I love the email formats in my inbox that are organized with some concise copy and some great links. It might be a sign of my devolving, but my attention span loves a bullet-point email. Weekly-ish is about what I can commit to, but please subscribe below to stay in the loop for tips and links, personal updates, and all things Ashley Willms Interiors, and Wynnsome Goods.

General Life Stuff

Dog

We came home with a new-to-us dog last weekend named Sadie. She's a 1 yr old labradoodle and she's a gentle giant. I have zero idea about how to maintain this coat, so open to all the doodle tips. Also, if you're wondering what industry to break into next, there seems to be a lot of demand and money in doodle grooming. Sheesh!! But other than being a little high maintenance, she's been a super fun addition to our home. We miss Scout dearly, who we put down on Christmas Eve after 15 years with me/us, but turns out you can love another dog.

Chickens

Speaking of pets, our chickens just started laying eggs this week! Finally earning their keep. We got 6 as chicks in September and they've been fun entertainment to watch out the back window wall this winter. That said, they've been free ranging and it's time to take the yard back and Sadie wants to chase them constantly. We got a large pen for them during the day that we'll set up this week which hopefully will solve everything.......that's silly. If anything it will just make our bakyard look even more hillbilly, but the eggs are good.

Pancakes

Breakfast this Saturday morning was my favorite fluffy pancake recipe. During the week we do a lot of Kodiak Cakes because they're easy and have protein, but on Saturdays, it's normally a Dutch-baby or these "buttermilk" pancakes. No buttermilk needed, just some vinegar to sour the milk. We have to double the recipe for our family and I find the key is rubbing a stick of butter on a medium-hot electric griddle for the best flavor and a little bit of crust. Bruin stopped me in the kitchen to tell me how good these are today. And he's today's favorite child.

The way I shot this pic my thumb makes it look like a giant doing the tiny chef thing. Love it.

Staycation

The weather in Edmonds has been almsot spring-y this weekend and my kids have a mid-winter break for 5 days. This concept is new to me, a mid-winter break and spring break?! I didn't plan anything ahead of time, so we'll be doing a little local tourism and some child labor. A few items on our list this week include:

  • Woodland Park Zoo

  • Ferry Trip and Lunch in Port Gamble (THE cutest town) or tool around downtown Snohomish.

  • Christiansen's Nursery in Skagit Valley to check out some bare root plants (such a deal) and Snowgoose Produce for some ice cream.

  • Swimming at the public indoor pool (pray for me)

  • And lots and lots of yard work.

Yesterday we kicked off a no school day by taking a walk down at the water and saw the Fish and Wildlife folks put 30,000 Coho salmon babies in the water. Edmonds never ceases to delight when you venture out.

Reading

I'm re-reading Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World for the second time, this time to discuss with some other mom friends. It's good, not perfect, and written in 2016 a little dated though the principles still apply, Honestly is a great check-in for my own heart and contenment and makes for great discussion.

Wynnsome Goods

We made it through Christmas and Valentines! Having a little shop-in-a-guest-room is proving to be SO FUN. I'm getting ready to bring some new items into the shop for Easter and Spring, so to make room EVERYTHING in the shop is 30% off this weekend (use code WINTERSALE) and until I feel like stopping. Thanks for all of your support!!

OK, this is the end of the email and that was a little chaotic. Thanks for making it this far with me!!

Love,

Ashley
